[1] 〘Noun〙① A bridge made by joining several narrow planks together over a stream or pond. ※Haiku poem, Wakamidori (1691) “Yatsuhashi no kichigai (The gap between eight bridges, waiting for you who have not come )”② The name of a fragrant wood. It is classified as Rakoku . Its fragrance is bitter and bitter. It is one of the 61 famous incense varieties. [Shino Munenobu's writings (included in the Secrets of Incense) (1501?)]③ A pattern of bridges crossed one another. [1] 〘名〙① 小川、池などに、幅の狭い橋板を数枚、折れ折れに継ぎ続けて架けた橋。※俳諧・若みどり(1691)「来ぬ君をまつ八橋の喰違ひ」② 香木の名。分類は羅国(らこく)。香味は辛苦。六十一種名香の一つ。〔志野宗信筆記(香道秘伝所収)(1501か)〕③ 交互に渡した橋を図案化した模様。(二)(一)がカキツバタの名所で知られるところから、カキツバタを配することが多い。※雑俳・丹舟評万句合(1704‐11)「八橋が袖とみ沢のかきつばた」④ 「やつはしおり(八橋織)」の略。※東京風俗志(1899‐1902)〈平出鏗二郎〉中「婦女には特に帯上(おびあげ)(〈注〉おしょいあげ)ありて、多くは別染縮緬、紋羽二重・八ツ橋等を用ひ」⑤ (「やつはしりゅう(八橋流)」の略から転じて) 琴をいう。※雑俳・柳多留‐四五(1808)「八橋(やツはし)で世を渡ってるひんのよさ」⑥ 「やつはしせんべい(八橋煎餠)」の略。※満韓ところどころ(1909)〈夏目漱石〉三九「八橋(ヤツハシ)と云ふ菓子に似た竹の片を二つ入れて」⑦ 植物「いちはつ(一八)」の異名。[2][一] (古く、逢妻(あいづま)川の流れが八つに分かれていて、八つの橋が架けられていたところから呼ばれたと伝えられる) 愛知県知立(ちりゅう)市の地名。東海道筋にあって、古くからカキツバタの名所として知られた。歌枕。三河の八橋。※伊勢物語(10C前)九「三河の国、やつはしといふ所にいたりぬ」[二] 賀茂川あるいは御手洗川に架けられていたとされる八つの橋。※蜻蛉(974頃)下「やつはしのほどにやありけん、はじめて、かづらぎや神代のしるしふかからばただひとことにうちもとけなん」
