Ikina Island

Ikina Island

An island in the eastern part of the Geiyo Islands in northern Ehime Prefecture. It belongs to Kamijima Town, Ochi County. It is surrounded by the islands of Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Iwagijima, and Yugejima. It is long and narrow, stretching 3.5 kilometers from north to south, with an area of ​​3.68 square kilometers. There are dolmen ruins (a group of megaliths) on Tateishiyama (139 meters) in the northern part of the island, as well as the remains of the castle of the Innoshima Murakami Navy. Many people commute to Innoshima, and ferries depart and arrive frequently. The Ikina Bridge was completed in 2011, connecting the island to Yugejima and Sashima by land. Population 1,871 (2009).

愛媛県北部、芸予諸島東部の島。越智(おち)郡上島(かみじま)町に属する。因島(いんのしま)、生口(いくち)島、岩城(いわぎ)島、弓削(ゆげ)島などに囲まれる。南北3.5キロメートルと細長く、面積3.68平方キロメートル。島の北部にある立石山(たていしやま)(139メートル)にはドルメン遺跡(巨石群)があり、因島村上水軍の城跡などもある。因島に通勤する人は多く、フェリーが頻繁に発着する。2011年(平成23)に生名橋が完成し、弓削島や佐島と陸路で結ばれた。人口1871(2009)。
