A river flowing westward in the northern part of the Ueno Basin in northwest Mie Prefecture. It is the upper reaches of the Kizu River. It is 39 km long. The Tsuge River originating from the southern end of the Suzuka Mountains, the Hattori River originating from the northern part of the Nunobiki Mountains, and the Nagata River join in the mid-west of Iga City to form the Iga River, which then flows westward and joins the Nabari River in Minamiyamashiro Village, Kyoto Prefecture, to form the Kizu River. On the way, there is the scenic Iwakura Gorge in Iga City. The Iga River and the Nagata River are sometimes considered to be the main stream of the Kizu River. In the Edo period, Takasebune boats traveled up Ueno to transport goods from Iga to Kyoto and Osaka. The river basin is the birthplace of Iga rice. The JR Kansai Main Line runs along the river.
