Cape Sata

Japanese:
Cape Sata

Located at the southernmost tip of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, near 31 degrees north latitude, it is the southernmost tip of Kyushu mainland. It belongs to Minami Osumi Town, Kimotsuki District. Tropical plants such as cycads, ako trees, Chinese fan palms, and tree fern grow around the cape, which is bordered by sea cliffs, making it feel like an isolated island in the South Seas. Behind it lies the Kimotsuki Mountains, where magnificent evergreen broad-leaved forests spread out. Most of this mountain range is made up of granite, but the area around the cape and the small islands of Owajima and Biroujima at its tip are made up of the Nichinan Group of the Paleogene period. It is incorporated into Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, and there is also Sata Misaki Marine Park, where you can explore coral and tropical fish from a glass-bottom boat. It is a 20-minute bus ride from Odomari. It can be reached by taking National Route 269 - Major Prefectural Road - Sata Misaki Road Park.
