The sea area between Denmark and Sweden in Northern Europe. It is the sea area between Sweden's Harland to the east, the Jutland Peninsula to the west, and the islands of Zealand and Funen to the south, and is not necessarily called a "strait" in Northern Europe. The line that separates it from the Skagerrak Sea that spreads to the north is a straight line from Skagen at the northernmost tip of the Jutland Peninsula to the Paternoster Reef. Three straits, the Little Belt, the Big Belt, and the Øresund, connect it to the Baltic Sea to the south, while it connects to the North Sea via the Skagerrak Sea. The deepest part, over 20 meters deep, extends from the north to the east of Løss Island, and in this sea area the Baltic Sea waters (salinity 15) and the North Sea waters (salinity 30) mix, and the low-salinity water covers the sea surface.
