…the most common garment worn by the ancient Greeks, serving as both undergarment and outerwear. It was made of a single rectangular piece of fabric, uncut, and women's and men's formal wear reached the heels, while artisans' work clothes and soldiers' wear reached the knees (see figure). There are two styles: Doric and Ionic. The former, also called peplos, is a simple style made of wool, folded in half, placed around the body, and pinned at both shoulders. The latter, mainly made of white linen, is roughly sewn into a cylindrical shape, leaving the neck and arms exposed, and is fastened at the waist with a belt to create beautiful folds and an elegant feel. …
