The Japanese name was thought to come from the fact that it grew in abundance in the capital (Kyoto), but it is also said to have come from the Chinese name for the basic variety, L. corniculatus L. (English name: bird's-foot trefoil), which has a hundred roots, "myakkongusa" (vein root plant). The stems creep along the ground or rise diagonally. ...
