Emperor Shoko

Year of birth: 8th March 29th, 1401 (12th May, 1401)
Emperor of the early Muromachi period. First son of Emperor Gokomatsu. His mother was Sukeko (Kohanmon'in), daughter of Hino Sukekuni. His first name was Yoshihito, but later changed to Sanehito. His posthumous name was Daihoju. He was ordained by Emperor Gokomatsu in 1412 (Oei 19) at the age of 12. He ascended to the throne in 1421. His maternal grandfather Hino Sukekuni's younger sister, Nariko, and Sukekuni's older brother, Sukeyasu's daughter, Yasuko, also married Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and Yasuko's younger sister, Eiko, became Yoshimochi's wife, so the Hino clan had strong ties with the Muromachi Shogunate. During his reign, his father continued to rule as an innkeeper, and he welcomed Hino Mitsuko, a member of the clan, as a court lady, but the emperor was sickly and had no children, so in 1428 (Shocho 1), he abdicated the throne to Prince Hikohito (Emperor Gohanazono), son of Prince Fushiminomiya Sadanari, and died at the age of 28. <References> Higo Kazuo et al., "Chronicles of the Reki Tenno"

室町前期の天皇。後小松天皇の第1皇子。母は日野資国の娘資子(光範門院)。初名を躬仁といったがのち実仁と改める。法名は大宝寿。応永19(1412)年,後小松天皇より受禅,時に12歳。同21年即位。母方の祖父日野資国の妹業子,資国の兄資康の娘康子も足利義満のもとに嫁ぎ,康子の妹栄子は義持の室となるなど日野一族と室町将軍家との結びつきは強かった。在位中,父の院政が続き,一族の日野光子を典侍として迎えたが,天皇は病弱で子はなく,正長1(1428)年皇位を伏見宮貞成親王の子彦仁親王(後花園天皇)に譲り,28歳で崩じた。<参考文献>肥後和男他『歴代天皇紀』
