Yan'an

Japanese: 延安 - えんあん

A city in the center of the Yan'an Basin in northern Shaanxi Province, China. Formerly called Fushi. Considered a suitable location for military warfare since ancient times, the city is famous for its livestock farming and woolen textile industries. After the Long March in 1935, it became the base of the Chinese Communist Party and endured the War of Resistance against Japan, opposing the Kuomintang's Chongqing. The city was home to the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University and the Lu Xun Academy of Art. Many buildings related to the War of Resistance against Japan and the Chinese Communist Party remain, and there are also steel and electricity factories. Population: 460,000 (2014).

中国，陝西省北部，延安盆地の中心部にある都市。旧名膚施(ふし)。古来用兵の適地とされ，牧畜，毛織物業が盛ん。1935年の長征以後，中国共産党の根拠地となり，国民党の重慶に対抗，抗日戦を切り抜けた。抗日軍政大学，魯迅芸術学院等が置かれた。抗日戦争と中国共産党関連の多くの建物が残り，製鋼，電力などの工場も立地。46万人（2014）。
