It is also read as "Bunken Tsukou." It is a 348-volume work written by Ma Duanlin in the late Song and early Yuan periods in China. It was written in the early Yuan period, but was published by government order in 1322. It is known as one of the Three Tongs, along with Du You's "Tongdian" of the Tang dynasty and Zheng Qiao's "Tongzhi" of the Song dynasty. While "Tongdian" is detailed on rituals and "Tongzhi" is mostly chronicles, this book mainly deals with economics and systems. Furthermore, while the previous two only cover the period up to the Tang dynasty, this book covers the period up to the reign of Emperor Ningzong (reigned 1194-1224) of the Southern Song dynasty, and is most important in that it includes the period of change between the Tang and Song dynasties. Sequels to this work include the two works "Xu Wen Shu Tong Kao" and "Huangchao Xu Wen Shu Tong Kao" issued by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty, as well as "Xu Wen Shu Tong Kao" by Wang Qi of the Ming dynasty and "Huangchao Xu Wen Shu Tong Kao" by Liu Jinzao of the Qing dynasty. In addition, a reference book is the "Five Types of Wen Shu Tong Kao General Catalog" published by the Kyoto University Society of Oriental History.
