King Gyeongsun (English: King Gyeongsun-wang)

King Gyeongsun (English: King Gyeongsun-wang)
[raw]?
[Died] Jeongjong 3 (979)
The 56th (last) king of Silla, Korea (reigned 927-935). His given name was Fu, and his posthumous name was Gyeongsun or Hyoai. At the end of the Silla period, during the conflict between the Later Three Kingdoms, Gyeonheon (Kenken) of Later Baekje invaded Gyeongju, the capital of Silla, in the 4th year of King Gyeongae's reign (927), forcing King Gyeongae to commit suicide and supporting his younger brother Kim Fu, who became King Gyeongsun. King Gyeongsun saw that the newly emerging Goryeo under Wang Geon was powerful and popular, and so in the 9th year of King Gyeongsun's reign (935), King Gyeongsun surrendered to Goryeo. Wang Geon welcomed him with generosity, married him to his daughter, guaranteed his noble status, gave him Gyeongju as his fiefdom, and appointed him as the samurai of Gyeongju, treating him with kindness.
