A concept that explains the relationship between the personality integrated by the ego and society. It can be translated as identity, subjectivity, or sense of belonging. It was used as a philosophical term, but since the 1960s it has been widely used in sociology and psychology. It was Erikson who defined the concept of identity in sociology, calling the unchanging self that integrates the various "I's" when the self plays various roles in a changing environment identity. Erikson formulated this concept based on Freud's theory, stating that identity crises become apparent during the individual's development process, especially in adolescence, and it has been widely accepted and applied as a concept for understanding the relationship between the individual and society. The problem of loss of identity in modern times has become a research topic in sociology as a phenomenon of incompatibility between the individual and society. Recently, in anthropology and political science, the aspect of identity that places the individual in a chain with others and connects them to an imaginary whole that transcends the individual has attracted attention, and the perspective of viewing nations and ethnicities as "imagined communities" in the modern world as stories that give individuals a strong collective identity has become influential. → Related topics Nation-state | Diaspora | Melting pot | Moratorium humanity Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
