Abbreviation: Dor. A small constellation in the southern sky. It was first depicted as a strange fish with a pointed mouth in the star atlas "Uranometria" by J. Bayer in 1603. The Large Magellanic Cloud lies to the south of this constellation, but it cannot be seen from Japan. Even its alpha star is faint, at magnitude 3.5. It is also home to the spiral galaxies NGC1553 and NGC1566. Its approximate position is right ascension 5h0m, declination -60°. It reaches its culmination at 8pm in late January.
