Redmond, J.

…Its predecessor was the Home Rule League, founded in 1873 by Isaac Butt (1813-79). After Butt's death, under Parnell's leadership, it sent many members to the Westminster Parliament (85 seats in 1885), and played a major role in supporting Gladstone and promoting Home Rule. After Parnell's downfall (1890), it weakened, but was revived under the leadership of John Redmond (1856-1918), and supported Asquith and worked hard to pass the third Home Rule Act in 1914. It was defeated by Sinn Féin in the general election of 1918, and subsequently disappeared (although the Northern Irish party continued to send members to London until 1925). …

…バットIsaac Butt(1813‐79)が1873年に創設した自治同盟がその前身で，バットの死後，パーネルの指導の下でロンドンのウェストミンスター議会に多数の議員を送り(1885年には85議席)，グラッドストンを支持して自治法推進に大きな役割を果たした。パーネル失脚(1890)後弱体化したが，レドモンドJohn Redmond(1856‐1918)の指導の下で再生し，アスキスを支持して1914年の第3次自治法成立に力を尽くした。18年の総選挙でシン･フェーン党に敗れ，以後消滅した(ただし，北アイルランドの同党は1925年までロンドンに議員を送っていた)。…
