A university located in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation. Founded in 1804. One of the oldest universities in Russia, during the imperial era it consisted of four faculties: history and linguistics, physics, medicine, and law. After the October Revolution it was expanded to eight faculties in 1977, including history and linguistics (including Tatar language and literature), and it has become a central cultural and educational institution in the Volga River basin and the Ural region. Many famous scholars have taught at the university since the imperial era, and mathematician NI Lobachevsky served as rector for 19 years from 1827.

ロシア連邦タタールスタン共和国の首都カザンにある大学。1804年創立。ロシア最古の大学のひとつで，帝政時代には歴史･言語学，物理学，医学，法学の4学部から成っていた。十月革命後に拡充され，1977年には歴史･言語学(タタール語およびタタール文学をふくむ)など8学部をもち，ボルガ川流域やウラル地方近辺の文化･教育の中心的機関となっている。帝政時代から多数の著名な学者が教鞭をとり，数学者N.I.ロバチェフスキーは1827年から19年間学長を務めた。
