Millipede

Japanese: フサヤスデ
Millipede
A general term for arthropods belonging to the Polyxenidae family of the Diplopoda class (class of millipedes). It is so named because it has a unique tuft of hairs at the end of its tail. It is a tiny millipede with a body length of 3 to 4 mm. The surface of its body is soft because it does not contain calcareous matter. It has several simple eyes on its head. It has 11 to 13 segments in its body, and 13 to 17 pairs of walking legs. The dorsal and lateral plates of each body segment are covered with clusters of branched setae with scales, and overall it closely resembles the larvae of the insect dermestidae. It gathers and hardens the setae from its surface under stones or bark, and lays about 20 eggs in the nest in several rows.
