The origins of Suwa Taisha Shrine, the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of Shinano Province. Completed in 1356 (Shohei 11, Enbun 1). 12 volumes. Originally called the Suwa Daimyojin Engi Emaki (Illustrated Scroll of the Origins of Suwa) or Suwa Engi (Illustrated Scroll of the Origins of Suwa), it was a picture scroll, but the paintings were lost early on and only copies of the legends remain. The author was Suwa (Osaka) Enchu (1295-1364). He was from the Osaka family, a branch of the Suwa Kamisha Ohoori clan, and was a magistrate in the Muromachi shogunate. The circumstances of its creation are known from Toin Kinken's En Taireki (En-no-taireki), but it was intended to be a restoration of the lost Suwa Shrine Festival Picture.
