Japanese: オオガシラ(大頭) - オオガシラ（英語表記）puffbird

A general term for birds in the Bucconidae family of the woodpecker order. As the name suggests, birds in this family have large heads, short necks and tails, and a stocky body overall. When they are quietly perched on a branch, they puff out the feathers on their body and neck, hence the English name "puffy bird." Their beaks are broad and thick, with a hooked tip, and their legs are antidactyl. They are small to medium-sized birds, measuring 15 to 25 cm in length, with feathers in a blend of black, white, and brown, and both sexes are the same color.

キツツキ目オオガシラ科Bucconidaeの鳥の総称。この科の鳥は名が示すように大きな頭をもち，くびと尾が短く，全体にずんぐりした体つきをしている。枝に静かに止まっているときには，体とくびの羽毛を膨らませているために，〈ふくれた鳥〉という英名がつけられた。くちばしは幅広くて太く，先端がかぎ状に曲がり，脚は対趾足（たいしそく）である。全長は15～25cmの小～中型の鳥で，黒色，白色，褐色などのじみな羽色をしていて，雌雄同色である。
