An ocean current that flows northwest and west along the coasts of Canada and Alaska to the Aleutian Islands. The Subpolar Current splits into north and south at about 150° west longitude, and the northern branch is the Alaska Current. As a continuation of the Subpolar Current, it is cold, but in the Gulf of Alaska it has the characteristics of a warm current. It therefore has a similar effect on the Alaskan coast as the North Atlantic Current and the Norwegian Current have on the oceanic climate of northwestern Europe, but on a smaller scale. It flows counterclockwise in the Gulf of Alaska, but part of it becomes the Aleutian Current and flows westward.

カナダおよびアラスカ海岸に沿いアリューシャン列島まで，北西および西に流れる海流。亜寒帯海流が西経 150°付近で南北に分れ，その北の分岐流がアラスカ海流。亜寒帯海流の続流であるところから低温であるが，アラスカ湾内では暖流の性質をもつ。それゆえ北大西洋海流およびノルウェー海流が，北西ヨーロッパの気候を海洋性にするのと同じような影響をアラスカ沿岸に与えるが，規模は小さい。アラスカ湾内を時計の針と反対方向に環流するが，一部はアリューシャン海流となって西流する。
