Born: June 1, 1892. [Died] April 25, 1960. The sixth king of the Bārakzai dynasty of Afghanistan (reigned 1919-29). He called himself Shah. He started a war against the British-Indian government (Third Afghan War) and had Afghanistan's independence officially recognized by the Treaty of Rawalpindi on August 8, 1919. He implemented progressive policies such as promulgating a constitution and reforming education, but faced fierce opposition from domestic conservatives and fled India to Italy.
