A deciduous woody climbing plant in the family Vitaceae (APG classification: Vitaceae). The leaves are ovate-triangular with coarse lateral veins and coarse wavy sawtooth edges, and the upper surface is deep green. The underside has reddish-brown fluffy hairs where the lateral veins divide. The flowers are small, yellowish-green, and grow in clusters in spike-like panicles. The fruits are small and ripen to a black color. Also known as otoko grape. Inhabits the Chubu region and west of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
