A general term for a method of combining plastic processing and heat treatment to suppress the loss of toughness caused by heat treatment and obtain high-strength metal materials that cannot be achieved by heat treatment alone. Increases in strength and toughness are brought about by increasing dislocation density, uniform generation and refinement of precipitates, and refinement of crystal grain size. Specific methods are broadly divided into three types. (1) Heat treatment followed by low-temperature processing. In the manufacture of piano wire, which requires high strength and toughness, strong cold drawing is performed after isothermal transformation treatment (patenting). 塑性加工と熱処理の組合せによって,熱処理による靱性(じんせい)の低下を抑制し,熱処理のみによっては達成されない高強度の金属材料を得る方法の総称。強度と靱性の上昇は,転位密度の増加,析出物の均一な生成と微細化,結晶粒径の微細化などによってもたらされる。具体的な方法は3種に大別される。(1)熱処理した後に低温で加工する。高強度と靱性を要するピアノ線の製造では,恒温変態処理(パテンティング)した後に強く冷間線引を行う。
