The phylogenetic analysis of fossil arthropods requires anatomical findings of a precision comparable to that of extant organisms, but the degree of preservation of fossil specimens is generally far below that, and they often rely on external morphology. However, with recent advances in ultra-soft X-ray photography, it has become possible to analyze the appendages of various extinct organisms, such as trilobites, as well as the arrangement and structure of muscles and nervous systems, and the accuracy of phylogenetic analysis is improving.
