...Population: 44,618 (1986). Originating from the Roman colony of Abella, the city was evangelized by the disciples of St. Peter the Apostle. From the Muslim occupation in 714 to the Christian Reconquest War at the end of the 11th century, the city was on the front line of both sides, and in the mid-11th century, the city was completely surrounded by a 12m high, 2.5km long city wall.
