Among plutonic igneous rocks, plagioclase, potassium feldspar, and quartz refer to those in which the potassium feldspar content in the total length of the rocks is 35-90% by volume, and the quartz content in the feldspar + quartz is 20-60% by volume. They consist of plagioclase, potassium feldspar, quartz, and biotite, and may also contain amphibole and muscovite. They are coarse-grained and holocrystalline. As a stone material, granite and other coarse-grained plutonic rocks are called granite and are widely used. Well-known stone materials include Inada stone, Okazaki stone, and Mannari stone. [Granoliths] Plutonic igneous rocks containing more than 5% quartz by volume are called granites. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
