Also known as Asian cabbage or ravenala. An evergreen medium-sized tree of the Musaceae family native to Madagascar. Its leaves are similar to those of the Baskan cabbage, but many of them grow in a fan shape at the end of a trunk that is 5 to 20 meters tall. The base of the petiole is swollen and collects water, which is said to have been used by travelers to quench their thirst, hence the name "traveler's tree." The flowers are white and grow on short axillary inflorescences. It is cultivated in greenhouses for decorative purposes. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
