A city in the province of Frosinone in the Lazio region in central Italy. Population 34,590 (1990). It was called Casinum in Roman times and San Germano from the Middle Ages onwards, but in 1871 it was renamed to its current name after Casinum. Ruins of a Roman amphitheater and other buildings remain nearby. During World War II, it became an important base for the German army's defense of Rome, and was destroyed by Allied bombing. イタリア中部,ラツィオ州フロジノーネ県の都市。人口3万4590(1990)。ローマ時代はカシヌムCasinum,中世以降はサン・ジェルマノSan Germanoと呼ばれたが,1871年にカシヌムにちなんで現名に改称された。ローマ時代の円形劇場などの遺跡が付近に残っている。第2次世界大戦でドイツ軍のローマ防御線の重要拠点となり,連合軍の爆撃で壊滅したが,戦後再建され,この地方の商工業の中心地として多様な工業が立地している。
