Abū Ma`shar al-Balkhī

[Born] August 10, 787. Khorasan, Balkh [died] March 9, 886. Wasit. Persian astronomer. Known in medieval Europe as an astrologer under the name of Albumasar. He was the first person in the Islamic world to discover that the tides were related to the lunar syzygy. His main work is the "Great Primer", al-Madkhal al-kabīr.
