Gymnocranius griseus - Gymnocranius griseus
A marine fish of the family Leucanthemum, order Perciformes. It is a species of the "bream-type fish" with a body shape similar to that of sea bream, and its most distinctive feature is a black-brown band that crosses from the dorsal to ventral side of the eye, from which the name is derived. It is also known as meichi or gindai. It has many local names, such as meicha in Owase, Mie Prefecture, ichimidai in Nagoya, ichi in Toba, and tarume in Kumamoto. It reaches a total length of 40 cm. Its body is silver-gray with irregular markings. Juveniles have 5 to 8 irregular horizontal bands on their body, but these become unclear as they grow.
