An introductory guide to composing classical Chinese poetry and prose in the late Heian period. Author unknown. There are many variant versions, but all of them trace their roots to the Kanchiin version. However, the Kanchiin version itself was created in stages, and originally only contained the "andai" (title), which explained the points to note when composing poetry and the form of the poem, and the title was given to this. Later, the "brand new" section, which explains the points to note when composing poetry and the form it takes, and the "poem itself," "miscellaneous poems," and "miscellaneous examples of poetry," which explain in detail the points to note when composing poetry, were added. The Higashiyama Bunko version lists the name of Fujiwara Munetada as the author, but Munetada was the author of the "Various Verse Styles" section of the book, and not the author of the entire "Sakumon Daitai."
