...A man of the mid-Edo period. A samurai with a stipend of 2,500 koku, his name was Magohachiro, commonly known as Miyauchi, and after retirement he took the name Umiou. He studied Confucianism under Sato Naokata and Miyake Shosai, and Shintoism under Shibukawa Shunkai, and inherited Ansai school and Suika Shintoism. This is how the Edo school of Ansai school, which aims to unify Shintoism and Confucianism, was established. His works include Nanzan Henronroku, Jindai Kontonso, and Suikaou Shinsetsu.
