Hirudinea

Their bodies are adapted for external parasitic life, with suckers developed on both the front and back of the body. The reproductive method of leeches is very similar to that of earthworms, so they are thought to have evolved from direct ancestors of earthworms by adapting to a parasitic life. There are about 360 known species in the world, with about 60 species living in Japan. Their bodies are flat or cylindrical, and always consist of 34 segments, but each segment is further divided into 2 to 16 rings, so they appear to consist of a very large number of segments. ...
