He was active in many areas. In 1877, Morse discovered the Omori Shell Mound (now Oi 6-chome, Shinagawa-ku), and excavated it from that year to the following year. At his suggestion, the University of Tokyo published the results in both Japanese and English (Shell Mounds of Omori) in 1879 as the first volume of the Tokyo University of Science Society. This report, along with gypsum models of the artifacts excavated from the shell mound, was distributed to universities and museums in Europe and the United States, and the excavated artifacts were also exchanged for prehistoric artifacts in Europe and the United States. …
