Argentine tango band leader and composer. He taught himself to play the violin and other instruments, and began his career as a tango performer in 1906, forming a quintet in 1916. He then formed a large band called Orquesta Típica, which toured Paris in 1925 with great success, and has since remained at the forefront of the music scene. His representative works include "El Polito" and "Sentimiento Gaucho."
