…During World War II, the company merged with Marubeni Shoten Co., Ltd. and Kureha Spinning Co., Ltd. to form Sanko Co., Ltd. and Daiken Sangyo Co., Ltd., and in 1949, the company was separated from Daiken Sangyo Co., Ltd. as part of a corporate split based on the Law for the Elimination of Excessive Concentration of Economic Power, resulting in the birth of the current Itochu Corporation. After the war, along with the development of the Japanese economy, the company made great strides from being a textile trading company to a general trading company, and in 1977, it merged with the prestigious Ataka Sangyo Co., Ltd., which was in a management crisis, strengthening its steel and chemical divisions.
