Adolescent medicine

Japanese: 思春期医学 - ししゅんきいがく

A branch of medicine that deals with adolescent health management and illnesses. Traditionally, medicine was divided into age categories, with people up to 15 years old (junior high school students) treated by pediatricians, and those 16 and older treated as adults by internal medicine or surgery. Recently, as aging and the aging society have become issues, geriatrics has become an independent field, but at the same time, attention has been focused on the importance of the period of transition from childhood to adulthood. The definition of adolescence varies across fields of medicine, such as gender, pediatrics, gynecology, psychiatry, and social medicine, but is roughly as follows:

思春期の健康管理や疾病などについて扱う医学の一分野。従来の医学は，年齢的に15歳(中学生)までは小児科にかかり，16歳以上は成人として内科や外科にかかって治療をするように区分されていた。最近，老化や老人社会が問題化するに及んで老人(病)科が独立するようになったが，同時に子どもから大人への移り変りの時期の重要性が注目されるようになった。思春期の定義は，医学のなかでも男女，小児科，婦人科，精神科，社会医学など領域によって一定していないが，およそ次のとおりである。
