Kinjishu - Kinjishu

Japanese: 金時習 - きんじしゅう
Kinjishu - Kinjishu

A writer from the early Joseon Dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Yeokkyung, and his pen name was Maegetsudang. He was one of the "Saengrokushin" (six ministers of the Joseon Dynasty) who became a monk in anger when King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty, killed his young nephew Danjong and seized the throne. He was known as a genius from an early age, but did not take the civil service examination and spent his life wandering. He later went to Mount Geumgo, built a mountain lodge and retreated there, writing the first collection of Chinese-language novels in the history of Korean literature, "Geumgo Shinhwa." Although the complete collection is no longer available, the five surviving works, including "Manbokji Chohoki" and "The Story of Yi Saenggyo Wall," are said to be the pioneers of Korean novels. He returned to secular life at the age of 47. He left behind many works, including the 17 volumes of "Maegetsudangshu." He took the world by storm as a thinker who combined the spirit of Confucianism and Buddhism, and also as an outstanding writer of letters.
