[Tradition and creation]
The story of Akamatsu Mitsusuke's assassination of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori has been passed down for a long time, and more than a few literary works have been based on it. The most famous of these is the joruri play "Yuki Onna Gomai Hagoita" by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, which is believed to have premiered in 1705 (2nd year of the Hoei period), and it is quickly counted as one of Chikamatsu's three masterpieces of period dramas. In the play, Mitsusuke is named "Akanuma Nyudo" and Mitsusuke's son Noriyasu is named "Akanuma Hangan," and they are portrayed as extremely evil father and son. In modern times, Kawatake Mokuami also used this as a theme in his "historical drama" "Akamatsu Man'yu Ume no Shirahata," which premiered at the Shintomi-za Theater in February 1879.

　赤松満祐の将軍足利義教弑逆事件は，その後もながく語り伝えられ，これを素材とする文芸作品も二，三にとどまらないが，なかでもとくに名高いのは1705年(宝永2)初演とみられる近松門左衛門作の浄瑠璃《雪女五枚羽子板（ゆきおんなごまいはごいた）》で，いちはやく近松の時代物の三傑作の一つに数えられている。作中，満祐は〈赤沼入道〉，満祐の子教康は〈赤沼判官〉と名づけられており，ひたすらに極悪非道の父子として描かれている。近代に入って，河竹黙阿弥もこれを主題とする《赤松満祐梅白旗（あかまつまんゆううめのしらはた）》という〈活歴劇〉の作品をなし，1879年2月に新富座で初演された。…
