Born on April 5, 1860. In 1877, he was adopted into the Ogawa family and took the name "Ueji" after the seventh generation Jihei. He designed many innovative Japanese gardens. His representative works include Hekiunso, Murin-an, and Seifuso. He passed away on December 2, 1933. He was 74 years old. He was born in Yamashiro (Kyoto Prefecture). His maiden name was Yamamoto.
