Yatsuhashi-ryu

Japanese:
Yatsuhashi-ryu
The name of a school of koto music. (1) It is used to distinguish the tradition up to Yatsuhashi Kengyo or Kitajima Kengyo from later generations. It is also called the Old Yatsuhashi School. (2) It is used to refer to the style that was passed down from Yatsuhashi to Jyooi Zatō, Toyotsu Zatō, and Yoshikawa Kengyo, and spread in Osaka. It is also called the New Yatsuhashi School. Yoshikawa's disciples were Kamezaki, Kamejima Kengyo, and Kumezono Koto, and it is said that Kamezaki had Kikushima Koto, Mashiba, Nomura, and Tamazaki, and Kamejima had Matsumoto, Onomura, Ikushima, and Iwashima. Kamezaki had been a shokukengyo since 1839 (Tenpo 10), and Onomura had been a shokukengyo since 1840 (Tenpo 13), so it is possible that the style was passed down in Kyoto as well. The Koto no Kumi (Yatsuhashi-ryu Kotokyoku) Shokashu (1777) was edited by Kamezaki and Kamejima according to Yoshikawa's tradition. In the catalog of kumiuta included in the "Saraeko" (Songs and Songs Study Guide), published since Bunka 2 (1805), only the titles of the songs are included for other schools, while the lyrics are included for the Yatsuhashi school (edited by Fujinaga II?). It can also be said that most of the kumiuta books published in Osaka are only for the Yatsuhashi school. Currently, the secret songs "Yaegaki" and "Tobiume" are not available in other schools. (3) This refers to the tradition that was passed down from the 12th Iwasaki Kengyo after the Yatsuhashi school through Kamitake, Yahata, Matsushiro in Shinshu, Ariichi zato, Chise no Onna, Kiou no Onna, Iyo no Onna, and Yufune no Onna, and was passed down to the Sanada Shin in 1909.
