Akamoku - Akamoku

A brown alga, a seaweed of the Sargassaceae family. Both edges of the leaves are pinnately incised, and the stem is cylindrical but angular due to the vertical grooves. Body length is 1-3 meters. The air vesicle is elongated and bald-shaped, with pinnately branched leaflets at the top. A perennial alga commonly found along the coast of Japan. Local names include Giba, Hosomemo, and Nagamoku.

褐藻植物、ホンダワラ科の海藻。葉の両縁は羽状に切れ込み、茎は円柱形だが縦溝があるので角張る。体長1~3メートル。気胞は細長い俵形で、頂頭に羽状に分岐する小葉をつける。日本沿岸に普遍的に分布する多年生藻。地方名にギバ、ホソメモ、ナガモクなどがある。
