A brown alga, a seaweed of the Sargassaceae family. Both edges of the leaves are pinnately incised, and the stem is cylindrical but angular due to the vertical grooves. Body length is 1-3 meters. The air vesicle is elongated and bald-shaped, with pinnately branched leaflets at the top. A perennial alga commonly found along the coast of Japan. Local names include Giba, Hosomemo, and Nagamoku.
