An insect belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Braconidae. It is also called the green caterpillar samurai braconid wasp. It is widely distributed throughout Japan and Europe. It is 3 mm long, has a black body and red-yellow legs. It is well known as a wasp that parasitizes the larvae (cabbage caterpillars) of the cabbage white butterfly. The adult female wasp lays dozens of eggs inside the young caterpillar, and the larvae that hatch inside the host feed on the host and grow. When the caterpillar has fully developed, the wasp larvae break through the body wall to leave the body, make a cocoon and pupate. After the wasp larvae leave the body, the caterpillar is unable to pupate and eventually dies.

昆虫綱膜翅(まくし)目コマユバチ科に属する昆虫。アオムシサムライコマユバチともよばれる。日本全土およびヨーロッパに広く分布する。体長3ミリメートルで、体は黒色、脚(あし)は赤黄色。モンシロチョウの幼虫（アオムシ）に寄生するハチとしてよく知られている。雌バチの成虫は若いアオムシの体内に数十個の卵を産み、寄主の体内で孵化(ふか)した幼虫は寄主から養分を摂食して成長する。アオムシが十分に発育したころ、ハチの幼虫は体壁を破って体外に出て、繭をつくって蛹化(ようか)する。ハチの幼虫が体外に脱出したあとのアオムシは、蛹化できずにやがて死ぬ。
