…a structure whose main framework is made of reinforced concrete is called a reinforced concrete construction, and a building made of reinforced concrete is called a reinforced concrete building. It is also called a RC building.
[history]
Concrete was used as a building material in ancient Rome and other places, but it was not until the mid-19th century that reinforced concrete began to be used in architecture. J. Monnier of France, who obtained patents for concrete flower pots containing reinforcing bars and railway sleepers, constructed a prototype of an earthquake-resistant house made of reinforced concrete in 1880.
