In other words, it is an aftereffect of damage to the developing brain. Traditionally, the translation of the German word zerebrale Kinderlähmung (cerebral palsy) was used in contrast to spinal polio, but as English became more common, the translation of cerebral palsy (cerebral palsy) became more common.
