A type of kusazoshi published in the mid-Edo period. It was popular around the Enkyo and An'ei periods (1744-81). It succeeded the Akahon, and is more suitable for adults than the Akahon. It was so named because its cover is light green. There was a similar Kurohon from the same period, and there is almost no difference between the two, but there were more Kurohon from the early to mid-period, and more Aohon in the later period. The contents are almost the same for both, but the Kurohon is more suitable for young people. Written mainly with pictures, the stories range from fairy tales to kabuki, joruri collections, religious and historical themes, stories of revenge, and happy occasions. As the stories became more complex, they developed into kibyōshi and then into gokan. Many of them were the artist's own creations, and representative artists include Torii Kiyotsune, Tomikawa Ginsetsu (Fusanobu), and Kansui-dō Jōa.
