Photosphere (English spelling)

Photosphere (English spelling)

This is the atmospheric layer that covers the surface of the Sun and other stars, and most of the light energy that these stars radiate into space is emitted directly from here. The atoms involved in absorbing and emitting radiant energy are mainly negative hydrogen (neutral hydrogen ions with one electron added to them, giving them a negative charge). This thickness is small compared to the size of the star, except for supergiants. For the Sun, it is about 500 kilometers, which is only about 0.06% of the solar radius. When the temperature of the photosphere is high, it mainly emits ultraviolet light, and when it is low, it emits infrared light. Stars can be seen to be bluish-white or reddish, which is due to differences in the temperature of the photosphere.
