An insect of the family Arctiidae in the order Lepidoptera. Wing span is 3-3.5cm. It is a medium-sized moth, with males having longer and thinner forewings than females. Its Japanese name means "Tiger Moth with a Sarasa Pattern." Its wings are orange-yellow with four black lines on the forewings, which are bright red from the outer edge to the base of the wing. Males have a large sound-producing organ at the base of their abdomen, but its function has not yet been studied. Females have a thick abdomen with a tuft of red hairs at the end, which they use to cover the egg mass when laying eggs. It is found in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Tsushima, the Korean Peninsula, and China. The larvae parasitize oak trees such as sawtooth oak, Japanese oak, and chestnut.
