Annaka uproar

...An uprising that broke out in the Annaka domain in western Joshu, which suffered serious damage from the great eruption of Mt. Asama in 1783 (Tenmei 3), and spread to the Saku and Ogata regions of eastern Shinano. In Gunma Prefecture it is called the Annaka Uprising, and in Nagano Prefecture it is called the Tenmei Uprising or Tenmei Saku Uprising. The villages of Usui County in Joshu were sericulture and field cropping areas, and rice was imported from the Saku region of Shinshu, but the damage caused by the great eruption of Mt. Asama that year destroyed all the crops, and the import of Saku rice also stopped, causing serious food shortages.
