Between the first ILO General Conference in 1919 and the 68th General Conference in 1982, 158 ILO Conventions and 166 Recommendations were adopted (180 Conventions and 187 Recommendations had been adopted by the end of November 1996). Of these, Conventions are binding on member countries under international law when ratified, so their contents can be considered minimum standards.
