Werra

…A river that flows roughly north-south through central Germany and empties into the North Sea. The Weser (292 km long) originates on the southwestern slope of the Thüringer Wald in central Germany, and the Fulda (218 km long) originates in the Rhenish mountains to the west. They both flow roughly north and join at Hannoversch-Münden, from which point the river is called the Weser. The total length of the river downstream of Hannoversch-Münden is 440 km. …

From Hesse

[Geography]
The Main River, which divides Germany into north and south, flows from east to west through the center of the state. The land south of the Main River is a lowland that is connected to the Upper Rhine Plain, except for the Odenwald Mountains in the southeast, which cross the Main River and penetrate into the center of the state, but the eastern and western sides of the state and the north are covered with mountains that belong to the Central Mountains, and the Lahn River, a tributary of the Rhine, and the Fulda River and Werra River, tributaries of the Weser River, flow through them, forming a complex topography. The numerous small basins between the mountains in the north are called the Hessian Depression.
